20-year-old Stephan Allen decided that he needed a car in Belmont, California, so went out to get one.
He went to the parking lot of a pizzeria. A man had gone into the pizzeria to buy a pizza. His wife and 5-year-old daughter stayed in the car.
As he was taking so long, the woman got out with her daughter to see where her husband was.
At that point Allen jumped into the Honda civic and drove off.
Police were alerted and it was only two hours later when they found Allen.
Allen was sitting in the car after it ran out of gas about eight miles away on a highway overpass in Burlingame.
Allen is currently being held in the San Mateo County jail.
It is unknown why he stayed with the car when it ran out of gas.
