Florida rescue services said that they had to cut away part of a roof to free a man who accidentally nailed his hand to a piece of wood while working atop the home.
Miami Fire Rescue officials said that crews responded to a home on Thursday after a 47-year-old man who had been working on the roof of the house accidentally nailed his finger to a piece of wood using a nail gun.
“It was that one finger on his left hand where the nail went through and into the wood. And we wasn’t able to free himself, so that’s when they called 911,” Fire Rescue Lt. Iggy Carroll said.
Carroll said crews had to use a hand-held power saw to cut away the section of roof attached to the man’s hand.
“We actually had to cut the roof around his hands so we could safely move him down,” he said. “Anytime you have someone impaled you don’t want to pull it out. We cut around it.”
Carroll said it took about 90 minutes to free the man, who was taken to a local hospital with the wood still attached to his hand.
